Privacy policy
Last updated: 20 October 2026
Your privacy is fundamental to our service. This policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal information under UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
Data controller information
Company details
Data Controller: DateMaite Ltd
Contact email: info@datemaite.com
Legal framework
We process personal data under UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. Our lawful bases include performing our contract with you, our legitimate interests, and your consent where it's needed.
Age verification and child protection
DateMaite is strictly for people aged 18 and over. Everyone gives their date of birth when they sign up, and optional photo ID verification confirms age.
Child safety measures
- Date of birth required at sign-up — under-18s can't create an account
- Optional photo ID verification through our partner Didit, which confirms you're 18 or over
- Immediate account suspension for suspected underage users
- Underage accounts are removed, and we report to the authorities where a child may be at risk
Information we collect
Profile information
- Your name, date of birth, gender and photos
- Who you're interested in, which may reveal your sexual orientation
- Interests, preferences, prompt answers and your bio
- Education and occupation (if you choose to share)
- Your phone number or email address, used to sign in
Sensitive information (optional)
If you choose to add them: your ethnicity, religion, political views and health conditions. These are special-category data. We use them only with your explicit consent, which you give by adding them, and you can remove them at any time. Health details stay private unless you choose to show them to matches.
Location
- Your town, and your precise location to show distances in Discover and find venues near you. Other members see roughly how far away you are, rounded to the nearest kilometre.
- If you share your live location during a date, your precise location (including in the background, if you allow it) is shared with the contact you choose until you end the share, for up to 24 hours.
Safety contacts
- The names, phone numbers and relationship of emergency contacts you add, used only to send them your safety alerts
Usage data
- How you interact with the app and other members
- Matches, likes (including any comment you add to a like), messages and voice notes
- When you were last active, and who viewed your profile (VIP members can see who viewed them)
- Device information, such as the code used to send you notifications
- Your purchases (handled by Apple or Google)
Verification data (optional)
- If you choose to verify, your ID document and a selfie go to our verification partner Didit, which checks your identity and that you're 18 or over. Didit tells us the result and the date of birth on your ID, which we turn into your age. We keep only whether you're verified and your age, and we never store your ID images or face data.

Information sharing
DateMaite will never sell your personal information to third parties for marketing purposes.
Limited sharing scenarios
- With other users (only information you choose to display on your profile)
- With the person you like: a comment you add to a like, and the photo or answer it was on, is shown to them in Liked You and, if you match, at the top of your chat. It is never shown to anyone else or in notifications.
- With service providers who run parts of DateMaite for us, under contract, including Supabase (our database and servers), Apple, Google and RevenueCat (purchases), Didit (optional ID checks), Twilio (sign-in codes and safety texts), Google (maps and venue search) and Resend (emails we send you, such as verification codes and replies, and your messages to our support inbox)
- With our AI provider, Anthropic (based in the United States), only to run the AI features below. DateMaite doesn't keep what's sent; Anthropic doesn't use it to train its AI and keeps it only briefly to check for misuse. What each feature sends:
- Chat helper (when you ask for ideas in a chat): your and your match's first names, ages, towns, what you're each looking for, interests, communication style, bios and prompt answers, and your recent messages in that chat, including comments left with likes (contact details removed). For date ideas, also a simple food and drink hint about your match, such as vegetarian or doesn't drink. Your match's religion, politics, health details and photos are never sent, and nothing reaches your match unless you press Send. You can turn the chat helper off in Settings.
- DateMaite assistant (in Help): what you type in that chat.
- Venue notes in Plan a date: the venues you're looking at (name, type, rating and price), the kind of date and the town or area you searched — nothing else about you.
- Why you matched: your compatibility score, match level and the interests you share — no names, and nothing about religion, politics or health.
- AI photo tips (only if you say yes — change it in Settings): when you add a profile photo, that photo, to check its quality (lighting, sharpness and whether your face shows).
- Profile coach (VIP, only if you say yes — change it in Settings): your bio, prompt answers, interests and how many photos you have. Not the name, age or location on your profile, or the photos themselves.
- AI date ideas in Plan: the town you type, the kind of date and the budget you pick — nothing else about you or your matches.
- When required by law or to protect user safety
- In the event of a business merger or acquisition (with prior notice to users)
Your privacy rights
Access and control
View and update your profile information, control who sees what, and adjust your privacy settings. You can ask for a copy of your data in Settings → Your data, and we'll send it within 30 days.
Account management
Pause your profile (Premium) or delete your account at any time. We don't send marketing from the app. If you joined our coming-soon mailing list, email info@datemaite.com to be removed at any time.
Data security
Protection measures
- Industry-standard encryption for data transmission and storage
- Regular security audits and updates
- Restricted access to personal data on a need-to-know basis
- Secure data centres with physical and digital protections
Verification data
- ID checks are carried out by Didit, not by DateMaite
- We record only whether you're verified and your age, never your ID document or face data
Data retention
Active accounts
We retain your data while your account is active and for a reasonable period afterward to provide our services.
Deleted accounts
You can delete your account in the app at any time (Settings → Your data → Delete account). Your profile, photos, voice notes, matches and chats are deleted straight away. If you can't use the app, see datemaite.com/delete-account.
What we keep after deletion
Reports you made about other members, and any evidence you attached, are kept without your name so our safety team can still act on them. Safety records (such as a summary of reports made about an account) and security logs (such as sign-in records) are kept for safety, security and fraud prevention.
Ended matches
When you unmatch someone or delete your account, your chat disappears for both of you. We keep a private copy for 90 days — or a year if a report between you is open — only so our safety team can investigate reports, then it is deleted.
Banned accounts
If we remove someone for breaking our rules, we keep a one-way, coded fingerprint of the email address, phone number and Apple ID on that account, with an internal account reference, the date, the reason and who made the ban, so the same person can't simply sign up again. The fingerprint can't be turned back into the details. We keep the fingerprints for as long as the ban stands, and a record of bans being made and lifted, on the basis of our legitimate interest in keeping members safe. To appeal a ban, email info@datemaite.com.
Legal requirements
Some data may be retained longer if required by law or for legitimate business purposes (such as fraud prevention).
